Hi, my name is Greg Simpson and I am the International business development manager
here at Fujimoto Traditional Carpentry. I was born and raised in New South Wales, Australia and have also spent a few years living and studying in Japan.
I believe that good architecture is fundamental to the happiness and well-being of humanity. I also believe that for architecture to be good it must sustainable and in harmony with its surrounding environment. For me, Japanese traditional carpentry is the very embodiment of these principles. Japanese traditional carpentry has been perfected over thousands of years in response to the unique characteristics of the Japanese environment. The result of this evolution are structures that are both durable and aesthetically spectacular.
I believe that the lessons learnt on the Japanese archipelago can be applied to other environments throughout the world. This is an exciting time for Japanese traditional carpentry. Here in Japan, growing interest in environmental sustainability is fuelling a revival of the traditional Japanese house and the skills required to construct them. I see it as a great privilege to be part of this revival.
If you are interested in building an environmentally friendly, comfortable house in your own country or if you would just like to know more about Japanese traditional carpentry please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
