Tea Ceremony Room in Fujisawa / 藤沢市 【茶室と水屋】Part 2

The work we have been working on since last October has finally come to the end. It is a conversion from a bedroom to a tea ceremony room. (four and a half Tatami size) As the children grew up and left the house, our client decided to have a room for their hobby; Tea ceremony. (Here is the Part 1)

The room was aimed to have a Wabi atmosphere (unornamented and humble). The closet has been converted into a storage space for the tea ceremony tools, with sliding doors that looks like walls at first glance.

The bathroom sink has been converted into a Mizuya which is used to make preparations for performing the tea ceremony.

I was so happy when our clients told us that the result was more than what they had been expecting it to be. They served us a cup of Matcha (yes, the real Matcha made in a proper, traditional way) in their brand-new tea room. It was such a splendid moment with gorgeous Matcha in the beautiful room. I feel so grateful to be a part of the creation where a lot of memories will be made such as tea parties, ceremony practice, even napping sometimes, family events or where people have a drink together…

I intend to make every endeavour to get better at what I do and one day hope to build a tea ceremony room in your country.
